Healthy Communities

A healthy community model embraces a broad vision of health, one that recognizes balanced economic, environmental and social development that enhances human health. The Greater Sudbury Healthy Community Initiative focuses on four strategic priorities: Active Living/ Healthy Lifestyle; Natural Environment; Civic Engagement/ Social Capital; and Economic Growth.

Nature and environment

Greater Sudbury is one of the few locations in the world that will leave cleaner environment for future generations than the one we received. Regreening has resulted in the planting of over 13 million trees (map), and the city has access to an extensive network of trails for motorized and non-motorized use. Greater Sudbury has become an ideal playground for outdoor enthusiasts.

EarthCare Sudbury

EarthCare Sudbury is a unique partnership between the City of Greater Sudbury, over 100 community, agencies, organizations and businesses, and hundreds of individuals coming together to chart our own course for a greener, healthier and more sustainable community.

Things to see and do

It starts with Northern Ontario's most popular attraction, Science North, where you'll find hands-on science for every member of the family, along with a 3D IMAX theatre and a new state-of-the-art Digital Planetarium. But there's much, much more to see and do.

Take a walk and enjoy Sudbury's natural wonders. The Jim Gordon Walkway along the shore of Ramsey Lake in the city's center is just one of the scenic trails enjoyed by residents and tourists. Have some family fun with mini-golf or go-karts, or another one of our exciting attractions. Learn about the people and industries who have helped to shape our community at our museums and historic sites.
